TN: 2012 Weltner Rödelseer Küchenmeister Riesling Trocken (Germany, Franken)

2012 Weltner Rödelseer Küchenmeister Riesling Trocken - Germany, Franken (12/31/2013)
First experience with Weltner as a producer, and my first Franken wine in quite a while. It’s very fine. Quite dry but also fruity, with a solid mineral base. There’s an interesting minty/herbal element on the finish, and just a hint of bitterness that makes me want to take the next sip, or have the next bite of food. I especially like the depth of fruit on the mid-palate. As I have never had a wine from this vineyard site I cannot speak to any specifics about terroir expression, but it’s a very transparent wine - Riesling to its bones. Well done, and thanks to Lyle Fass for bringing it to the USA.

I bought this as well but haven’t opened a bottle yet. But I did try both the Silvaner and Scheurebe and liked both quite a bit, especially the Scheurebe, which had a delicious herbal/flowery character. Nice wines.

I bought the Silvaner and Scheurebe as well. Going to try those relatively soon.

Another sylvaner/scheurebe holder. These come in some funky bottles ala Mateus rose.

Thanks for the nice review David. Just saw this.

In 2013 I will be bringing in his higher end bottlings including GG’s and an Alte Reben Sylvaner from Rodelseer. Missed them in 2012. They are amazing wines. I am glad people are starting with these though.

Sounds interesting.

That squatty odd-shaped bottle is the Franken standard bottle.

True. But that does not changes that it is a PITA.
