2012 Tercero Mourvèdre Larner Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley (4/24/2020)
It’s been over two years since I had one of these. An open and pretty 2012 Camp 4 Mourvedre gave me the confidence to go back to this bottling. From first pop and pour it showed well, though an hour of air had it showing even better. Deep, plummy fruit, damp earth and a hint of herb came through on the nose. It actually showed more open on the palate, as the fruit fanned out, and gave the developed tones room to roam. Still lots of substance here for development, though this was my last bottle. It’s a deeper, but more suave expression of the grape than some others from California - reminding me a bit of a cross between the depth of the old Ridge bottlings, and the more aromatically expressive things that Hardy Wallace does with the grape. Very enjoyable, and clearly cellar worthy.
