TN: 2012 Siduri Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard

2012 Siduri Pinot Noir Pisoni Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands (10/22/2013)
Comforting and complex nose of plums, tar, candy cane, and spiced apple cider bubbling on the stove. Sip and you’re met by an enveloping and very savory wine that continues to bring the dark fruit, and the tar, and the yummy spices. Despite the brooding taste profile, this is not heavy; a deft touch preserves the elegance one expects in a Pinot Noir. The wine is a superb harbinger of the 2012 vintage, but still has a bit of that unformed character one finds in barrel samples. (It’s not a barrel sample but close enough to release there ain’t much difference.) Give it a year in the cellar and it will be even better. (93 pts.)

And oh yeah, this screwcapped bottle is the first victim of my recork with the Italian floor corker, then Coravin technique. We’ll see what it’s like tomorrow.

Thanks, Nick. Interested to hear the re-corking, Coravin result on a twist-off bottle.

Italian floor what?

Ahh, see this:

One of the consistently impressive things about Adam’s wines is that he manages to produce wines that are usually pretty accessible early on, but also somehow manage to age quite well. This wine is probably 8 weeks in bottle or so- which is a testament to that very aspect.

Wine is great the next day… But wow… on both days this took a solid 3 hours in the decanter to open up. This is the wrong Pinot to take to a restaurant for a pop-and-pour without more cellar time, or at least this vineyard… I suspect the RRVs will be more open.

Btw, I just entered the vineyard Weinlagen
