TN: 2012 Schrader Boars' View Pinot Noir (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)

2012 Schrader Boars’ View Pinot Noir - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (11/24/2014)
On the first night the nose on this admittedly Pobegaed wine was reticent but the palate showed some intense fruit. Tonight, 24 hours after being open, the nose is full of pretty primary berries, hints of chocolate, and even a touch of mint. I readied myself for a huge palate and was surprised by somewhat restrained red and black fruit with some green notes and somewhat dusty tannins. Very young but not unbalanced. I get no heat in this whatsoever. Nice acidity too. Glad to have several bottles. Will wait at least a year to try number two. The name suits it.

Thanks for the early look Humberto. Thought I’d try one for Thanksgiving, but think I’ll hold off until the next offer hits the inbox.

Was your last comment in regard to Marcassin?

Yeah. The impression is reminiscent of a young Marcassin. Obviously time will tell…

Cool. I’ve yet to taste a Marcassin. I was finally offered last year but they don’t ship to VA. I’ll have to track some down. I’m excited about the Boars View though. Looking forward to seeing where this lands on the RM >> Aston spectrum.

Just my opinion which is worth what it costs you
I love both RM and Aston. RMs are to me a lot brighter and red fruited than this. They always have this orange peel thing going on. Astons are bigger and more in your face. This is the more structured of the three I believe. Granted this was popped as soon as I got it and it is a 2012 so time will tell.

I drank one Saturday. Posted on Frank’s charity thread. I agree with your assessment. ABV was not noticeable and very fruity palate.

Saw your note on CT fully agreed
