TN: 2012 Patrick Piuze Chablis Terroirs de Chichée (France, Burgundy, Chablis)

Ripe and accessible with honeysuckle on the nose and citrus fruits drizzled with honey in the mouth. It is full and round with relatively soft acidity yet some energy and verve from nice underlying minerlaity. A very tasty wine for its level.

Thanks Jeremy. I haven’t been paying attention, is 2012 Chablis a soft vintage?

I was wondering the same thing as Berry.

Jeremy, I recall from your past posts that you found honeysuckle in many 2009 Chablis (and I agreed). To me, however, honeysuckle isn’t really what I want in Chablis. Viognier? Sure. Any parallels between 2009 and 2012 in Chablis? Frankly, if there are, I would be relieved that 2012 is a vintage to drink short term rather than stock up.

It is my first peek at the vintage and yes honeysuckle is a descriptor I used a lot in 06 and 09. Perhaps it will be another Chablis vintage of flesh, ripeness and early drinkability.

In speaking with Guillaume from Domaine Louis Michel, the words he uses to describe (his) wines from the vintage are “fruit forward, mineral driven, powerful, intense, complex, aromatic, and with more balanced acids than the 2011s.”

Certainly 2011 was a challenging vintage in Chablis that required a lot of attention in the vineyards due to difficult weather throughout (early frost, then rain and hail), so I’d expect more variability than typical depending on how the various vintners responded to the conditions…
