TN: 2012 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard

2012 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru (12/29/2014)
Light, airy, pale hay in color, a lovely light nose of yellow flowers, sea spray, almost Chablis-like; palate follows the nose, with light, fairly delicate flavors, though beautifully layered, showing pear, apricot pit, lime rind, good acidity, and a finish that turns distinctly limestone mineral. Nothing ripe or blowsy about this wine, just beautiful, stony, chardonnay. (92 pts.)

Dang - I was holding a bottle of 2012 Lamy St Aubin (different 1er) yesterday at Beltramo…considering also the 2011 version since they had both…but man, at $70-80 a pop, I had to pass.
Sounds delish.

Dan, I hear you. Stopped at Wine House in LA on our way back from San Diego yesterday, looked that another Lamy, closer to $80, and decided on this one at $60. High, but I think worth it in this case.

If it is still there next time I go, I’ll probably buy a couple.
Btw, is your bottle really named Derrière??

Bought yesterday? Guess you weren’t concerned about travel shock! [snort.gif]

Derrière is in the name, is that bad? I wish this was travel shocked! if that meant it could be even better, I’d be happy.

Nice note, Alan.
I’m a fan of this one.
Need to try the '12.
Cheers.

With this phrase, Alan, you have pretty much summed up Lamy’s whites. From top to bottom, they are sure bets for a deeply satisfying bottle of white Burgundy.

Disclaimer: I sell Lamy (and would sell more if I could get hands on them).

Hasn’t budged an inch from last night, still beautifully lithe, stony, minerally.

You’re killin’ me, Alan. I am scurrying around trying to source some more for my business but coming up dry.

The red ‘Derriere’ is also very good. I’ve been holding on to my last bottle of '02 for a while now, but may have to crack it soon.
