TN: 2012 Dr. Konstantin Frank Pinot Noir Salmon Run (USA, New York, Finger Lakes)

Based on Wine Searcher I overpaid at $15 by $3-$5 but even still this is a very very good value.Only 12% ALC, rarely seen from a US producer, is interesting too. Light to mid weight at most but with plenty of cherry and soil infused flavors. NO cola on the nose or palate is always good in my book. Just a really nice pure expression of what Pinot Noir should taste like and decent depth at only $15. The pic of a Salmon on the label is kind of goofy but I like what’s inside. (89 pts.)

I don’t drink this often but have had it on occasion when there is nothing else around in local (Finger Lakes region) restaurants, and Craig is right, it is not bad, especially at the price being charged. I don’t get the salmon thing either, since salmon don’t really “run” in the Finger Lakes but calling it something like “Cow Farm Red” or “Hemlock Gully” doesn’t quite convey the right image. nice to see a note on this!
