TN: 2012 Domaine Leroy Coteaux Bourguignons (France, Burgundy, Coteaux Bourguignons)

  • 2012 Domaine Leroy Coteaux Bourguignons Blanc - France, Burgundy, Coteaux Bourguignons (4/1/2016)
Apparently a new designation that replaces Bourgogne ordinaire. $98 USD in a Tokyo department store. Decided to give it a shot.

Started off with a hint of sulfer, thin, very tart, and yieldingly tight. After 30 minutes in the glass it gains more weight and more rich fruit emerges. Still with a lot of lemon acidity and limestone. Not much wood so it is quite pretty. Impressive weight and roundness in the mouth. I prefer this over the Aligote by a comfortable margin.

Initally thought that I would take a Roulot Bourgogne Blanc any day at half the price but that last glass 3 hours later was actually quite fine and balanced. Not showy in the style of PYCM nor as pure as Roulot but certainly equivalent to the $100 equivalents of both those producers.
