TN: 2012 Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno Barolo Bricco Pernice

  • 2012 Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno Barolo Bricco Pernice - Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo (10/17/2019)
Medium expressive nose displaying slightly dry black fruit, black cherry, dry cherry, fruitcake, strong animal that I often find in Beaujolais, licorice, balsamico, leather, rare steak, sweet spices and earth. Excellent concentrated, nicely layered ripe black fruit, deeply toned, warm and rich, medium acidy and mineral, noticeable tannins and a long sweet black fruit driven finish with animal and licorice at the end. Although, the ample fruit makes this enjoyable, it will take another two decades to reach the peak. Solid showing. (93 pts.)

Thanks Kevin,

Hope all is well with you.

I thought Valter made some of the better '12s, a vintage that in general I do not adore. His wines, along with Fabio Alessandria and MT Mascarello’s were among my favorite 12s. Thanks for the update.

Kevin,

I once tasted this very good wine : Barolo Elvio Cogno Vigna Elena 2000.
The domain annonces : rosé, a sub-variety of nebbiolo.

It also uses : lampia (Ravera) and lampia + michet (Bricco Pernice)
