Is this type of note helpful to people? I drank the wine a couple of days ago without the idea of even writing a note. It just stuck in my mind, though.
2012 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir- USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills (11/24/2014)
No formal notes, but really loved the light, elegant wine. Fruit leaned more cranberry than cherry. Even with such a young wine, I got pure frult and no oak. Really wonderful stylistically.
Thanks for the note Chris. I opened a bottle shortly after I got it back in July and loved it. The 2011 is excellent too…
2012 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard- USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills (7/14/2014)
No notes taken, but this really showed well. Captivating nose with red fruit and lots of spice (stems). Perfect balance and a silky texture on the palate with a big burst of flavor. Acidity and some tannin appeared at the finish. Beautiful stuff and I’m glad to have a few more bottles so I can follow it’s development. (93 pts.)
Thanks for the notes. I have a few of the Maresh Vyd wine and was hesitating to open any of them yet.
Nice to see the data points for both of these wines.
Spice and cranberries… No one else got that crazy apricot thing going on? Seriously nice juice underneath but some whacked out yeast effect making it a dead ringer for Kerns apricot nectar. I expect it will fade, but totally in your face now. I asked Jim himself about it and he said every 4 years or so strange things like this would happen. He attributed it to that “crazy Dundee Hills fruit!” Clearly some crazy native yeast expressing itself. It was a totally new Pinot experience for me.
Durstin I will look for that both in the Dundee Hills bottling (which this thread it about…under $30) and the Maresh Maresh bottling ($45-70 and utterly world class in every way). Frankly if I spot the apricot next time I’ll probably see it as a plus, apricot and New World pinot noir sounds kind of nice. Apricot and cabernet, not so much.
For a couple of the above posts I can’t tell if they’re talking about the Maresh Dundee Hills or the Maresh Maresh.
