TN: 2012 Arnot-Roberts Trousseau (USA, California, North Coast)

Did I intend to age this for almost 13 years? No. Do I regret it? Heck no! This was both fascinating and delicious. Mouthwatering acidity, crisp berry fruit that had picked up warm spice notes (think cinnamon, clove, etc.), and a touch of green tobacco and dusty earth along the edges had me going back for another sip almost faster than I could swallow the last one. This was one of the most interesting wines I have had in a very long time.

I would have expected it to be totally dead.
Sometimes you win one.

Score one for the glacial cellar!

Fascinating. I wouldn’t have expected dead, but maybe that the fun and energy had mostly faded away?

Sandlands is the trousseau I buy regularly. I’ve always felt I should drink them in a few years, but I wonder how they would hold up too.

Oldest Sandlands I have had is 6 years post-vintage, and it was in great shape.

I haven’t been a fan in recent years (stopped buying when a few in a row seemed overripe) but back then these were really good on release. Cool.
