TN: 2011 Paul Jacqueson Mercurey 1er Cru Les Naugues

Nose of cherries, menthol, forrest floor and baking spice.

Palate is cherries that is followed by a tidal wave of baking spices and some minerality on the finish. Acidity is med+ with medium tannins that were unobtrusive after a 2-hour decant. Short+ finish and not a lot of depth. Still very tasty and enjoyable, reminded me considerably of a well-made Anderson Valley PN but with a bit less fruit. 13% abv. My first glass was consumed much more quickly than usual – a good sign. Definitely a wine to enjoy and not to ponder, but when it’s so tasty, that’s certainly not a bad thing.

Note that at the 4 hour mark the cherry flavors morphed into cranberry and by the next morning (after sitting in the decanter) the fruit was tart red apples. (90 pts.)

Not at all familiar with the producer, but purchased this on a lark after seeing the 2009 version recommended by winemakers Kevin Harvey and Andrew Morris. Really damned tasty for the money – cost me < $20 on sale and it would be a buy at twice the price. Yummy
