TN: 2011 Kutch Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast (USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast)

Some pics in the other thread of the bottles last night with the crew, but the Kutch was mine so I did a note since it was in CT. Fantastic showing. A+
DdLC also no slouch.

Really fantastic showing. Burgundian. Dujac-y. Herbaceous nose- stems presence. Pure, clean red fruit. Juicy, but light on its feet and long-lasting. Showing really, really well.

The Kutch was killer. One of the best Cali pinots I’ve had in a while, barely nudging out some Ladd from nearby.

    Were both 2011?

    Love 2011 California Pinot

No, don’t have any 11 Ladd - have enjoyed 08 and 14 recently, and also have some 13 I’ve yet to try.

Great to hear that 2011 Kutch SC is still creating smiles. I finished my final one last year, as part of a larger Kutch event we did around here. I had held onto that bottle for almost a decade and it was drinking really well last year, and seems it continues to. Thanks for the note, Dennis. To add onto the discussion, here is my 2022 note:

Kutch Verticals--Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay (My House): Damn the 2011 is in a good place. I remember early on, when the wine was younger that the stems were more prominent but that has now worked its way into the wine much better. Pours a little cloudy, with brown spice and spicy cherry nose. Jolly Rancher hard candy note, juicy in tone with cinnamon and plenty of focused energy. I had held onto this bottle since 2013, and glad we got to enjoy it yesterday, as it's a good testament to Jamie's work in the early years.

I guess I really liked it!

May 2, 2022 - Kutch Grand Tasting Round 1; 4/25/2022-5/3/2022 (FMIII in the OC): Awesome - my WOTD for the Kutch tasting. First of all, not only is 2011 underrated as a vintage, it’s my favorite California vintage. An this might be my favorite of 2011, top 5 for sure.

Looking like an older burg in the glass, light brick color. Aromas of cedar emanate from the glass. Very euro in its presence. Red berry fruit, primarily raspberry and light strawberry mid palate through the finish. Cedar hangs around to the end

Yes, we drank that bottle together. I’d not hesitate to buy more of this if I ran into it again. 2011 gets pooped on and yet there are wines like this to dispel the idea that the vintage wasn’t successful for some.

    Thanks @Frank_Murray_III and @brigcampbell

Your notes inspired me to pick this up at auction not too long ago. I have a handful of Kutch and still snag some when I can. Great bottle.

    There you go!

Now, in return, you have inspired me to go pull a Kutch Chardonnay for dinner tonight. I think I will do a 2017 Trout Gulch in your honor, Dennis,

Interesting. I generally dislike 2011 California Pinot. Maybe they are finally coming around.

Sitting on a small pile of these and love to see the progress. Thanks for the note(s), from all. I have them penciled in for sooner than later, but not rushing. My last was a year ago and a half ago…

“All around lovely. The nose is brambly red fruit, beautiful. can also smell a “thonk” of sour amidst the aromatics or cherry, blackberry stems/leaves, some spice. Front is red fruits, dark cherry, drying black tea notes, herbal goodness, Its lighter in body than the glass presents. Bright acidity, well integrated, and effortless from front to back. Finish is a lingering mix of macerated cherries with black fruits, a touch of a sour “thonk” that resonates and echoes well down the stretch. A decade and still going strong, can drink now or hold and see. Doesn’t seem to be struggling on any note. Enjoy if you have them.”

Nice note, Rich! You are in a good spot having a few more. Agree that it has some time to to go. Cheers.

Have had some amazing Littorais from 2011 in the past that were noteworthy.
    Great note btw

I haven’t had many Kutch wines. But all that I have tried have been excellent.
