In light of the offer coming out tomorrow, I wanted to try my first Ceritas Pinot Noir.
2011 Ceritas Pinot Noir Costalina- USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (4/30/2014)
Nice herbal nose with raspberries and minerals. Red fruit and mouthwatering acidity and good length. In some respects, it reminded me of a Gamay from a ripe vintage. It’s not going to make you feel the earth move, but I thought it was a pretty wine.
Thank for the note, Diane. It’s been about a year since I had one but I posted below my last two notes on the wine. This is something I wish I had bought 6 of. Right in the flavor profile of what I like to drink these days, great for my “pallet”.

Opened about 90 mins ago. Beautiful bright red and light purple color. Stems show in the aromatic, along with crushed rock, spicy cherry. Deep stony red flavors, a savory, loamy note in the core and finish, too…truffly. What I liked about this wine when I had it 2 months ago, then again now, is the purity of the red fruit, resembling another producer whose pinots I respect for this same purity–Copain. This pure quality is here, and it’s not obstructed or blurred by any wood/oak either. As it airs, picks up notes of blueberry too, which underpins the cherry. Still lots of structure here and so perhaps some more slox ox time will soften it but what a beautiful core of flavors and tension here…one day with the bottle open, such a great bottle of pinot noir. Showing some red apple tones today and wet stone, more drinkable today with the air, too. Finish also shows a kiss of vanilla too. It is wines like this that keep me spending my wine budget in California, forgettng Burgundy. Just terrific, another horrible 2011 I will add to my WOTY list.

This was the only wine from the visit that I was able to purchase and carry out with me. And of the handful of pinot we tasted during the visit, in good fortune, this resonated with me strongly. Spicy and floral with purple flowers, and then some punctuation from the stems, I think abut 40% all in. Lots of “blue” fruit, I have this circled in my notes. Cherry and raspberry in the background, along with iron. And circled also in my notes, a “rocky” quality. As it breathes out, the fruit gets a touch richer but the balance and blue fruit is the carrying strength here. 3 bottles for the cellar. Really good, reminding me of what Copain does with some of the pinot they make when the blue tones and rocky quality stands out front. Excellent.
