TN: 2011 Cameron Pinot Noir Dundee Hills (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills)

always an interesting pinot. There is a prevalent animal hide funk - even smoked animal hide. This is in the nose, palate and finish. While this might seem unpleasant, it isn’t - it is integrated well with reduced ripe raspberries and rhubarb pie filling. There is also a very nice tang on the finish. There was a bit of spritz on opening but that soon went away. The wine continues to evolve and can be enjoyed now with air. I can also see this wine evolve a bit more. All in all - pretty damn impressive for $24. (92 pts.)

I coincidentally had this bottle last night, too. I didn’t detect any spritz on opening, but I agree with your note. It’s actually in a pretty good place right now and I’d open it before 2012 and 2010 for sure.

Without overtly calling attention to this, this is the wine I was tasting when I posted on “Brett or Sweat?” You can search. It was not that long ago and I never said which wine it was.

I’ve always found Cameron very reductive, but not bretty or sweaty. Haven’t had this particular wine, though.

Exactly. That was the discussion. The ins and outs direct attention to reductive.

Gotcha. Hadn’t seen the last post in that thread. My guess is it’s a combination of reduction and a lean vintage that produced a wine that wouldn’t be to your taste otherwise! Good reading on that other thread though!

A few years ago I was drinking and loving bold fruited Syrah and BDX blends. Then I discovered these earthy, thin, austere Pinots and can hardly bring myself to open anything but a PN, GSM or Cab Franc. I also like nasty beer. [snort.gif]
