TN: 2011 Bedrock Heritage Wine

  • 2011 Bedrock Wine Co. Bedrock Heritage Wine - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley (7/19/2014)
I don’t drink much zin at all, and this took me by surprise. Blind, I’d probably call it a 2008 Charvin, or some other restrained CdP. Nice fruit as one would find in the southern Rhone, but enough acidity to balance it out. Brambles on the nose and palate, purple fruit throughout.

I like this much more than the 2011 Evangelho, which was over the top for my palate. This is restrained, complex, and delicious. Well done.

Maybe not Charvin, maybe VT?

This might be the wine that makes me a zin believer. Maybe I should just buy in off vintages? In any case, this is very tasty, and worth checking out.

I don’t know if I would consider 11’ an off vintage for Zin. The 11’s I have had were/are better than the 12’s for me.

Nice note. It is only 60% Zin.

I don’t drink a lot of mixed black either.

I was contemplating the Carlisle offer, planning on passing, but opening this convinced me to buy a couple. I love that those guys are trying to preserve California’s vitivultural heritage, and now I’m glad I actually liked one of the wines.
