TN: 2011 Baer Winery Ursa (USA, Washington, Columbia Valley)

  • 2011 Baer Winery Ursa - USA, Washington, Columbia Valley (5/16/2016)
Inky dark ruby, cedar nose. Dry with bold tannins complimenting the fruit. Good acid for balance in the more bold fruity style, but restrained enough not to be overpowering. Cherries with stone fruit tannins on day one. Good potential with this wine. Day two, nose showing some restrained blackberries, tart blackberry fruit with chewy tannins, needs more time for the rough edges to soften. OK, six days on and this is finally where it should be. Started @ 89 and ended with 92 tonight. (92 pts.)

Thanks for the note! Never tried this wine but always been curious about it.

Sounds like I should look for a bottle with some age on it if/when I do.

I’ve had several Baer Ursa, and I’ve found they show best, IMO, with some age. From my CT history, I had a 2008 in 2015 that was smashing, two 2004s (one in 2010 that was great, one in 2012 that was fading a bit). So, I think the sweet spot it right around 6-7 years or so. Glad you liked it.
