TN: 2010 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett (Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer)

  • 2010 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (5/14/2012)
Bright golden. Incredibly fresh and inviting nose. Bright citrus, green apple, fresh pineapple juice, and brilliant acidity. There is fantastic slate-stoniness and depth with the weightlessness of Himmelreich. Just enough RS to add complexity without any feeling of overt sweetness. Absolutely mouthwatering and incredibly drinkable. Fresh, pure, complicated and tastes very much more-ish. I have a weak spot for high acid whites and this delivers in spades. An energetic, fantastic Kabinett that’s must weight is probably spatlese level but the acid keeps it so fresh and light on its feet. 93pts (93 pts.)

Sounds amazing…love me some Willi Schaefer

Schaefer kabinett may be the most slurpable wine in Germany. It deserves lots of attention, but it’s just too fun to drink.

I’ve got six in styro jammed in my overfilled cellar. I keep tripping into the unopened boxes. This note is a good excuse to do a little unpacking and try one of these. David is right. These tend to be gulpable, chugable, slurpable, and otherwise nearly too darn delicious to contemplat-sometimes.
