TN: 2010 WillaKenzie Estate Pinot Noir Aliette (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley)

  • 2010 WillaKenzie Estate Pinot Noir Aliette - USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley (10/19/2014)
Medium ruby, cherry nose with light oak. Dry, tart red currants, medium body and fruit on the PnP. More toward the high acid, restrained fruit spectrum with lightly bitter subdued tannins. On night two, bright red berry, smooth light oak tannins, nicely balanced in a lighter style that may appeal to the AFWE crowd but be a little thin for those wanting a more robust style. (91 pts.)

I have been drinking their wines for quite some time. A member of their cellar club and now just taste these what they offer. After a hiatus exploring Rhone reds over in the WA valley, I returned to exploring the WV again. Previously WK had a few wines I liked and many that did not appeal to me. I have been drinking through their '10 selections, and they are much more impressive now. They may have changed or I have, but I like them much more now. I could be the '10s are just showing what I like in a PN. [welldone.gif]

Thanks Dennis. I haven’t had much/any of their stuff as far as I can recall.

Wow, a real blast from the past producer for me, used to really like the Pierre Leon from prior vintages.

I also wanted to comment that I enjoy a lot of your posted notes on NW wines, especially the high quality bottles in the $20 to $45 dollar range, a real sweet spot for the both WA and OR IMHO. Perhaps availability and distribution is the key issue for not seeing more postings on NW wines on WB; as a lot (but not all) of the better ones are made in smaller quantities or shipping costs offset the attractive pricing.
