TN: 2010 Virage Vineyards (USA, California, Napa Valley)

  • 2010 Virage Vineyards - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/20/2015)
A year later and a dinner @ virage Thursday night, and we decided to test it again. It made such good progress in this year. Great successor of the 07 line. Earthy and fruit notes, cedar and blackberries are noted. Upgraded with the food and over dinner. The house at virage (the restaurant, no relationship to the winery) also enjoyed their tasting. IMHO, it needs more decanting time for the good, structured earthy notes to come out, which we did not give last night (done in ~2 hours). So, to summarize–happy we have three more to enjoy over time, and it reached the positive prospect we forecasted a year ago:-) (93 pts.)

Popped and poured at cellar temp. Lovely dark color. Camphor, brooding black fruit and a hint of oregano and pepper on the nose. Dark blackberry fruit, spicy pepper, crunchy acid and partially resolved tannic backbone on a lovely palate. Really beautifully balanced, old school Napa Cab that punches well above it’s price point.

Jud,

The Virage reds are predominately a blend of Cab Franc and Merlot. Not sure if other grapes are blended in as well.

Right bank Bordeaux style.

Thanks Dave - did not look at the blend. Old school cab franc???

That works! You weren’t wrong! [cheers.gif]
