Picked this up hoping it would be a solid dry table wine, no mean feat when it comes to TJs and its penchant for pumping out TJs branded sweet and/or flawed sub-$10 wines. A blend of Cab Franc and Petite Verdot, 60/40, an odd combination but rather intriguing. Actually delivered better than expected for $10: clean, balanced and dry, though noticeably hollow in the middle. Incidentally, this appears to be a totally different Errazuriz (Ovalle) than the other Errazuriz that gets more distribution in the US.

2010 Viñedos Errázuriz Ovalle Trader Joe’s Reserve Colchagua Valley - Chile, Central Valley, Rapel Valley, Colchagua Valley (12/30/2011)
A blend of blending wines–and one of the better TJs wines I’ve tried. Nose of cherry, blackberry and herbs with just a bit of tar and bell pepper off in the distance. Very tight at first on the palate, but opened up nicely over an hour. Acidity and tannin were ‘vinous’ in quality, neither obtrusive nor noticeably lacking, mid-weight. Driven by cherry and berry fruit up front, then hollows in the mid palate with a light herbal finish. Dry, oak not a dominant component (sweet/overipe fruit and spoofy oak are often problems with TJ wine). A nice classic-style table wine, more Bdx than New World. No flaws, just loses momentum on the mid palate and on to the finish. (85 pts.)
