TN: 2010 Palmina Dolcetto (USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County)

I liked this a lot more than a prior vintage that was around 15% ABV. This is refreshing, earthy and very Italian tasting. I’ll be back for more in future vintages.

Definitely channeling the Italian character more than the prior vintage or two I’ve had. At first had an herbal aroma similar to ‘lesser’ Piedmont reds, like Barbera. Refreshing acidity, mid-weight, fairly simple in tart fruits and herbal flavors, short finish, mild tannin. Rose and herbaceous bouquet. Good stuff, exactly what it should be.

I like Palmina wines - they aren’t at all like the Italian varietals, but they are unique and enjoyable in their own right.

Totally agree with this statement for ALL wines that Steve and Chrystal make.

I really like what they’re doing - its nice to see a producer focusing on something other than the usual varieties. Their nebbiolos are my favorites, but i find i like almost everything they do.
