TN: 2010 Merkelbach Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese

2010 Merkelbach Urziger Wurzgarten Spatlese

Very pale yellow-green

Nose > Big quince, key-lime, lemon & lime-oil, pineapple. Creamy & rich, but mostly very defined, slightly pungent stony/slatey/steely fruit & fruit oils.
Nectarine/apricot/white-peach, blood-orange, & asian-pear. Seemingly deep, but shy (even though big), & extremely mineral laden.
Ravishing, really.

Palate > Big, rich, tight, & intense. Showing huge stony/slatey lime-oil infused fruit. Massive wave of citrus follow: intense key-lime, blood-orange, pink-grapefruit, & tangy, pungent pineapple.
Round, long, concentrated, big, & intense.
Seems only lightly sweet with intense spine of acidity coming up in mid-palate along with an even bigger wave of pungent, intense key-lime, lime-zest, & dense white-nectarine.
Powerful, intense fruit carries through the long, intense finish that echoes with pungent & pretty lime/blood-orange/pink-grapefruit.
The stony/slatey pungent Intensity builds all the way through to the finish.
The finish lasts for minutes, & leaves a beautiful, slightly bitter limey/stony/slateyness that keeps it’s intensity an unbelievably long time.

A friggin’ WOW wine!

95 Points

Will get more, but I doubt I’ll be able to keep my hands off - 1 case down already.

I have to say, in my almost 35 years of loving German wines, I have never tasted Riesling like some of these 2010’s. Quite UnBeFuckingLievable!

Three Cheers! & Hats-Off! to wines like this! [cheers.gif] These are the high-points that let you see more clearly, & describe the entire landscape.
