TN: 2010 Mauritson Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

Took this last night to a relatives house and paired with variety of homemade pizzas.

The first time I tried this I didn’t think too much of it compared to some other Dry Creek Zins I’ve had but I gave it another shot and I’m glad I did. Showed really well last night.

This dark purple wine has lovely aromas of wild berries, flowers and eucalyptus like minerals. On the palate though, is where this really struts it’s stuff. The core of wild berry fruit is distinctively Zinfandel and is coated in dusty dry creek tannins. The tactile sensation is unique to that area’s terroir and I love it.

Solid value at $22 as well. Can’t go wrong here. Only negative I’d add is that it seems absolutely ready to drink so I wouldn’ think of holding them. But I suppose that’s not really a negative.

Cheers!

I stopped by Mauritson when I was in the area about two months ago, my first time trying their wines, and was very happy to come across them. Their Rockpile offerings are particularly deep.

We were there in May too, but passed on Mauritson to head over to Ridge instead. In retrospect that was wrong because Ridge was a big disappointment. However, I had wanted to buy some Pagani Ranch, so we needed to go there. Next time I’ll hit Mauritson. I’ve heard lots of good things about the Rockpile line.
