TN: 2010 Lucien Le Moine Echezeaux (France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru)

  • 2010 Lucien Le Moine Echezeaux - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru (1/28/2013)
Delicate yet complex nose displaying ripe blackberries, sour cherries, white flowers, earth, a slight hint of licorice/sweet spices, limestone and surprisingly already a hint of Vosne spices. The palate displays delicate sappy fruits, copious amount of mineral, bright acidity and sweet but noticeable tannins. This is a very precise and energetic wine with pure red fruits that Burgundy traditionalists will love. Perhaps if it were a white, it would have been the 10 Dauvissat les Clos. I have been buying Le Moine reds based on Antonio and a retailer friend’s advice and I have been extremely happy. I just read the Antonio’s review and I agree wholeheartedly with his assessment. One of my favorite producers and a friend . His 2010’s are his best yet , I think .

Bought his wines for several years (especially the VR 1ers incl gaudichots) but got squeezed out last year and then the merchant I had been dealing with stopped selling them completely. C’est la vie. Can’t be bothered to work my way back up the pecking order with another merchant. Haven’t actually tried any of them yet though as I assumed the modern style would need a long time to settle into something I might prefer.

I have to admit I really like Le Moine wines. I was tempted to drop due to cellar thinning but I just can’t quit them ! Meadows was spot on with these.
