TN: 2010 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rouge La Croix du Roy

  • 2010 Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rouge La Croix du Roy - France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre Rouge (8/29/2015)
Amazing Burgundy like nose. Complex, Iron, black and red cherry, pepper, cumin, pine, and hint of menthol. Medium intensity. Not as unripe and green as other Sancerre rouge. On taste the cherry flavours come through with nice acid balance. A long fresh bitter melon rind finish that makes the wine very interesting. It has a nice spine on which the fruit flavours hang. Very nice pinot from Sancerre.

Very nice wine but I prefer their red 2009 Cuvée Prestige.

However there are plenty more ripe, un-green and very tasty Sancerres from e.g. Alphonse Mellot [Generation XIX , En Grands Champs et al], Vacheron [Belle Dame], Henri Bourgeois [La Bourgeoise, Le Chene St. Etienne et al], Andre Dezat [Cuvee Prestige] to name just a few that I know well.

Thanks for the list of producers. I will definitely search these out for try. Typically not a huge selection in the shops for red Sancerre, but I can search around on CT as well. I have had a few Sancerre rouge but most have been on the green side which I do not mind. It is worth exploring given the price increases on the Burg side even for Bourgogne.
