TN: 2010 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barbera d'Alba (Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba)

2010 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barbera d’Alba - Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d’Alba (8/13/2014)
Dark purple color with bright ruby edge. Fragrant nose of red and black berries and spice. Thick and velvety in the mouth. The acid is high at first, but mellowing over time. Long tart black cherry finish. Should improve for 5-10 years. As it opens, some hints of licorice and chocolate. Tasty stuff. (92 pts.)

Sounds great, thanks. Much oak?

I don’t think so. Not sure they have any in the cellar, at least not new.

I just remembered that in this winery there is this chair made of barrel staves from a barrique:

The note on the chair says “The only good use for a barrique.”

Ken, do you have a source for this in the US, or did you get it elsewhere? I’ve been looking but can’t find Rinaldi’s barbera, dolcetto, freisa, or ruche. I suspect they aren’t imported.

No. This was a gift. Going by Wine Searcher Pro, it has only been sold once in the last 4 years in the US, and that was the 2008 by Chambers Street 4 years ago.
