TN: 2010 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny

  • 2010 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod / Barthod-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny (8/25/2014)
Pure, crisp, detailed and fine. This has cherry fruit flesh but is dense and compact. There is minerally structure and terrific fidelity. It is perfumed and pretty yet too young and in need of some cellar time. Fabulous village Chambolle that drinks like a 1er Cru. Someone give Ghislaine some Bonnes Mares and Musigny please!

I thought I was “off” Barthod, but popped 99 Fuees this past weekend. Killer…I second the BM or Moose!

Great village wines.

Funny, I bought 2 bottles of this wine some months back and decided to try one before sending the other one to my cellar. Still finding it difficult to find a way to ship the other one over instead of drinking it.

Surprisingly I found this bottle’s profile leans strongly towards dark berry fruit instead of the more typical red fruit of many Chambolle village wines.

If the Village wine is this good, I’m really looking forward to sampling some of the better premier crus from this vintage down the line…

And her Bourgogne “Bon Batons” is pretty remarkable most years.

Why can Laurent get Moose sometimes, faiveley and Pousse with new Amoureuses. And none for Barthod???

Because she is neither negociant like Laurent or Faiveley, nor financially mega-endowed to be buying whole estates like Landanger (not that she would ever want to if she could).

From an operations perspective I understand there is an overhead if doing both Domaine and Negociant bottlings. Not sure on the detail but when visiting Dujac back in 02 they made mention of it.

Faiveley Amoureuses is a blessing for mankind.

Look, she already owns 9 different 1er crus which is really not bad (better than those who only have one or a couple)…
… and I have a friend who manages to get a few bottles of each 1er cru at a great price… The world is unfair…Hope he will organise a blind tasting!..

More appropriately, perhaps a blessing for the .00000000001% of mankind who can both find it and afford it.
