TN: 2010 Congruence Cabernet Sauvignon (USA, California, Napa Valley)

  • 2010 Congruence Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California, Napa Valley (2/21/2014)
Opened 45 minutes prior to tasting. Shows a nose of green pepper, concentrated black fruit - plum, blackberry, lots of black peppercorn, a hint of oak, and a dusty soil note. On the palate it’s similarly a touch green but showing nice balance. I like the concentrated fruit that is bound by good acidity. This drinks a bit more accessibly than I anticipated, showing good tannin integration and excellent length. The finish is a fun mix of dusty soil (minerality?) and dark chocolate black cherry. Overall a really tasty cabernet.

Thanks for the note. The wine was intentionally made to be more accessible than my previous cabs, as it seems those take at least 5-6 years to approach their drinking windows. Even my 2011 Napa bottling is going to take a year or two longer to come around than the 2010 Napa did. Lots of merlot in the final blend (12%) really helped the wine get to this spot. The Coombsville Reserve from 2010 is going to reward a lot of patience, imo.

I can safely say I’ll be buying more Congruence cabs, that’s for sure.
