2010 A. Christmann QbA Riesling Trocken (Liter) –Pfalz, Germany 12,5% alc.
Sweet key lime, grapefruit, asian pear and almond. Pleasantly and surprisingly aromatic with real cut and length for a Liter bottle. Clean and refreshing with good 2010 acidity.
There are exceptions, but liter bottles of Riesling, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau or Kerner are normally pretty dull. The favored method of consumption for these is as Weinschorle (wine mixed with mineral water -2 or 3 to one) and slugged down like Pilsener. The Christmann is roughly double the price of most liter bottles, but it is definitely one that I’d recommend.
btw, I really miss drinking the Setzer Grüner Veltliner Liter that I used to love so much in the US. it is consistently the best Liter bottle of wine that I’ve tried.
Cheers,
Bill
