2010 Château La Vieille Cure - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Fronsac (1/1/2014)
Decanted just 30 minutes as I brought it to a local Bistro, but I suspect a few more hours would have opened things up even further. Quite shy and subdued nose, swirling did generate a little discreet oak and dark fruits, clearly the bouquet will come with time or extended aeration. Delicious and full of promise on the palate however, very dark and full of structure, but surprisingly light on its feet true to the Fronsac appellation. Dark plums and a smoky minerality linger all the way to the finish, which is more than respectable, especially given its price point. Speaking of price, this is definitely high on the ol’ QPR meter; I paid $29 at Total Wine, and worth every penny. Going back to reload as this should evolve gracefully for at least a decade, perhaps longer. (90 pts.)
