My thoughts on the 09 CLG:
2009 Château Canon-la-Gaffelière (France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru) 3/25/2013
Took a half bottle for a test drive. A distinctly modern take on St. Emilion, with a notably complex bouquet of roasted coffee, BBQ spices, herbs, licorice, tarmac, and currants. The palate at present is too heavy, but still flavorful. Too low acid for my tastes, probably, I wonder how this will develop. Enjoyable, but a sex pot to drink without food. B+ if all goes well…
“‘There is no longer hope for a great vintage, that is over,’ …
‘It is a vintage for rich winemakers; those who have the means to spend the necessary time, care and effort. The wines will have aromatic intensity but many will lack tannic maturity.’”
Ugh. Thus it will be at least four more years before another vintage as good as 09/10 hits the shelves, assuming fortunes change in 2014.
Sorry for being late to the game. I went hella deep on the 09 La Gaff. Hedonistic style but also should age nicely.
