TN: 2010 Alice et Olivier De Moor Chablis Bel Air et Clardy (France, Burgundy, Chablis)

I saw the Envoyer offer for a couple of the 2012 De Moor whites this past Friday and it got me thinking so I opened up my last Bel Air et Clardy. These wines are awesome, at a price point this is hard to pass up. I believe as time moves forward, I am becoming more aligned to the slate, acid and lemon/green apple flavors. There are some producers in CA that are doing these wines, wit Copain coming to mind. I think of the recent 2010 Brosseau chard, it kind of ran this same track. I find the Rhys wines still a bit more flashy but also heading this way, and I’ve yet to get enough of the new Wind Gap chards into my glass to get a sense. However you see CA chard, these De Moors are a great reference point for “what if” and wines I really enjoy. Thanks for reading.

My last bottle, and a bummer, this is my last De Moor 2010, as I have finished all the others. I had dragged all of them back from Boston a few years back, I really enjoy this producer. I opened this y/day, plenty left for today and it’s drinking super well. Orange rind, a bit of unctuous green apple, being buffered by plenty of lemony acidity, with sour lemon curd-like finish with slate. These De Moor wines, at this pricing of $30, really puts a lot of CA chard stuff to the back of the line. These guys produce clean wines, organically crafted without any bs, they show that purity. I wish the public here in the States would deman more wines be made like this, really tur chardonnay. Terrific.
