TN: 2009 Wind Gap Wines Nebbiolo Luna Matta Vineyard

2009 Wind Gap Wines Nebbiolo Luna Matta Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles (1/10/2015)
Ruby colored, elegant, perfumed and surprisingly tannic on the back end. The fruit is expressive, so the balance is good. I would like to hold my remaining bottle for 3-4 years just to see what happens. I was reminded of the Ferrando Carema white label as I was drinking this.

Bingo, David. Good comparison. The Calif Nebbs we’ve tried seem to resemble AltoPiemonte more than B/B.
Not found any Calif Nebbs, though, that resemble much Valtelline Nebb…which is, of course, the greatest
expression of Nebb in the world.
You should try some of the Ioppa AltoPiemonte Nebb blends if you can find them. Really quite good &
appeal to my Calif palate more. Some TN’s later today.

The Ferrando white label is in pretty elite territory for it’s expression of Nebbiolo. Going to make a great effort to do a visit this year.

Gary-to clarify, the Ferrando is still the better wine, but I see a real kinship of expression. Pax is on the right track with his rendition of Nebbiolo.

I actively buy and drink the Ferrando. Love the wine.

I had this wine (I believe the '06?) at their tasting room at the Barlow this summer. Very impressed. I haven’t had too many Cali Nebbiolos, but I thought this was a great rendition of the grape.

Does Pax still make this wine? I’m holding on to my one remaining bottle like David is.

A little of the Windgap is around. Seem to be in the mid $40.

So cheaper than the Ferrando.
