2009 Weingut von Othegraven Kanzemer Altenberg Riesling Kabinett Erste Lage - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (9/1/2013)
This is a very enjoyable kabinett. It’s a touch rich, but the overall impression is much more delicate than most kabinetts I have run across lately. The aromas and flavors still have some of that Saar green-ness, with lime and leafy elements playing very well with more ripe tree fruit tones. The sweetness is balanced and the wine finishes dry. A very good drink that does not thrill but definitely pleases.

I had a similar thought on the 2008. Good and pleasing, but not thrilling. I would buy again though. As an aside, earlier this year I drank a 1975 von Othegraven Kanzemer Altenberg Auslese which was a stunner.

I found the 2008 thrilling and loaded up.

The 2008 is f*cking spectacular. Amazing Kabinett. I think I’ve gone through a full case_ this summer.

The 09 is a bit ripe, more Spätlese-lite than Kabinett. But also very good.
