TN: 2009 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard

  • 2009 Switchback Ridge Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard - USA, California, Napa Valley (11/15/2011)
Stopped by to pick up my 09’s this afternoon and Kelly graciously offered me a split that she had opened a couple days ago so I could get a feel for the wine without having to kill a 750. Big and rich as I expect from a SB Petite. Picking up all the chocolate, tannin, alc and acid FMIII noted but this one is surprisingly more fruit forward than previous bottlings and a little on the juicy side with blackberry and deep dark cherry tones. Nevertheless it should have come with a diaper because it’s just way young and I’m struggling with trying to get the nose to give much up. I’ll reset the cork and check back tomorrow.

P.S. Shut up Todd! neener

Just took delivery of mine today, and I don’t plan on opening it for, oh, 5 years.

Damn Brian, the other night I just broke into my 1976 Petite Syrahs.

Well 1) this one as already opened 2) [middle-finger.gif]

I remember tasting the 2002 on release. That wine was big and black and demanding of many years of cellaring. It was even bigger than the SR Cab.

You never tell me what you really think. [cheers.gif]

Everyone is afraid of petite–DRINK IT for crying outloud and enjoy the wine for what it is. All the crap that the critics write about waiting 20 years and that BS. It’s BS. Decant the wine, let it unwrap and drink it over a couple days.

Brian, I really enjoyed the 2009s when I was up to see Kelly a few weeks back. She pledged a couple of mags today for Falltacular so that ought to create some nice bidding for the Pet heads, like me!

Kelly is as good as it gets for sure [cheers.gif]

That young it is.

+1!!!

Talk about burying the lede!
