TN: 2009 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select

  • 2009 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select - USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District (2/12/2016)
Decanted. First glass, this was tight and the nose was faint. Strong tannins and long finish. Ager, too young. Walked away and came back 2 hours later. Wow. Wine had totally transformed. Asian spice, symphony on the nose. Balanced, silky. I’ll hold my other bottle for several more years - probably another 5-10 years from peak. (96 pts.)

Thx for trying this out! I am looking forward to the day I pop mine open!

Thanks for the note! I have a few of these in the Cellar and am trying to stay away for at least 10 years or so.

Appreciate the update!

Still sipping on this. BIG wine. LOTS of life ahead.

Scott, we’re drinking a 2006 tonight paired with Flannery’s NY strips and it’s simply mahveleous.

Nice, great combo!
