2009 Scholium Project Rhododactylos Phillips Farm - USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi (4/1/2012)
This wine was no April fools joke. It started out with a tiny touch of strawberry mixed with Abe-style minerality and a nice acidity. Enjoyable but not a wow. However, over the next two hours in the glass and the bottle taking on air, it developed more and more fruit flavors including everthing from plum to a grape flavor that I find characteristic of chardonnay. That might not be odd in chardonnay, but in a Cinsault rose? It reached its peak at about 90 minutes of air. There was a meaty fullness to the mouth feel and broad flavor all across the tongue. Much more than just a “rose.” (91 pts.)
