TN: 2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard

  • 2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Alpine Vineyard - USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains (7/28/2012)
Sacrificed a bottle at this young age for comparison with additional bottles down the line. Decanted and poured directly to glass. Nose of vegetal blueberries with a hint of garrigue and juicy fruit gum. Well balanced and light on the palate. Fantastic finish of cold blueberries, hints of licorice, and cola bottle caps. Opened up and became rounder/fuller over the course of the meal. I suspect this will continue to evolve in bottle and develop additional complexity over time. (93 pts.)

Sean, thanks for the note on the 09 Alpine. The 06 Alpine is also starting to drink well, and I agree that positive development should continue for the 09. Btw, I ave been following the 12 vintage on the Rhys website/twitter page, and 12 is shaping up very well at the moment with good crop size across the vinyards and cool weather forecast on the 10-day. Sean - nice note…I haven’t popped one of these yet but, based on your note, it sounds like there is no shame in pulling a cork to get a peak under the hood. I’ll have to put one into the on-deck circle.

Thanks for the note and sacrificing one of yours so I don’t have to with one of mine.
Still drinking on the 2007’s now because that was the first year I bought from them.
The 2009’s to be even more built to last this one espically.
