TN: 2009 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py Cuvée 3.14

  • 2009 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py Cuvée 3.14 - France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon (3/31/2012)
Morgon on roids but without being heavy or tiresome. The fruit is ripe, throwing off smells of blood plum, cherry, raspberry and blackberry. There are notes of violets and lilies as well as a stalkiness reminiscent of a winery crusher during harvest. it has a sensual, silky texture and great concentration of fruit. There’s fabulous length of flavour with some cherry stone freshness underpinning all of the flesh.

Cheers
Jeremy

Disclaimer: I have sold some of this wine.

I love the texture of the Foillard wines. I really enjoyed the 09 Cote du Py but didn’t taste this one. Sounds nice.

I adore the 2010 Cote du Py. A little less concentrated and ripe than the 09. Beautiful balance to me. This lower concentration allows the underlying complexity to come forward with just a few minutes of air.
A wonderful texture that is very much like Burgundy from a good producer.

Nice note on this 2009 Jeremy. I will search it out.

Thanks for the note. I have some of this tucked away, and have not popped it yet. Frankly, I forgot about it. Need to go venture to storage more . . . .

Thanks for the note Jeremy. It seemed to me when I tasted one of these a year or so ago, it was worth holding the rest, as I think there’s tremendous upside here.

edit: I drank the '06 a year ago, not the '09…

Morgon on roids but without being heavy or tiresome.

Absolutely perfect description of this wine. I’ve had it several times and each time had the same impression. We really need to get you to NY, you don’t drink well enough Down Under… neener

has this wine been on sale yet in the states?

I was going to ask, because the 07’ was just released in Wa state last year, I know they skipped 08’ (rot) and have not seen the 09’ anywhere are the Aussies special?

I think this may be the one 2009 Beaujolais that upstaged the 2009 Lapierre Morgon…

Did you have a chance to try the 07 3.14, Jeremy? Comparison?

Jeremy you popped this a couple of weeks late. Would have been perfect for http://www.piday.org/.

Thanks Guys.

Don, I have a 2010 Morgon and 2010 CdP that have arrived as well and look forward to trying them this week.

Ian, I also love the 2007 3.14, it is perhaps not as concentrated as this 09 but no less beguiling (my note below).

Matt, I will diarise Pi day for next year and drink a vertical!

Cheers
Jeremy

2007 Foillard Morgon 3.14: Sweet cherry fruits, loads of minerals and dried flowers and the most silken of palates. This is very dense, direct and delicious. It is a wine of great fragrance and texture.
