TN: 2009 François Chidaine Vouvray Sec Les Argiles

  • 2009 François Chidaine Vouvray Sec Les Argiles - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (11/2/2014)
Light straw, clear, bright. Honeyed jasmine, candied ginger, lime, chalk and seashells. With a few minutes in the glass, melon rind, and flashes of green tea. Medium- body, with subtle, fresh acids. Wastes no time filling out the middle and back palates; dry, with persistence that builds as it lingers. The nose and palate both add complexity into the second glass and beyond; adds more weight, too. A classy drop. Probably best now and over the next 5-7 years. 13,5% abv. highly recommended

Slow-o 2 hours, tasted, re-corked and served blind 6 hours later.

edit: bigger, fuller and more delicious on night 2, fantastic

Cheers Tim and thanks for the note. For info, I had a 2005:

2005 François Chidaine Vouvray Sec Les Argiles - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray (11/8/2014)
A lesson in why these wines should be allowed to mature. Previous bottles were juicy in their youth but have been rather cloying and syrupy in their adolescence. This has blossomed into something else entirely: the nose is much as before, with butterscotch, melon, honey and pear liqueur, the initial taste is also quite rich and heady, but there is now a clean, soaring middle section, much more acidic and refreshing, based on lemon and apple flavours, before a long, dry finish. Sumptuous. (93 pts.)

I’m going to dig into my other 05s which I had given up on.
