2009 Domaine Pierre de la Grange (Luneau-Papin) Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie Le “L” d’Or - France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais, Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine (11/29/2011)
Very nice. This has a herbaceous edge like Sauv Blanc that I don’t notice in Pepier for instance. White pear and citrus with strong mineral content and a hint of pepper. Substantial fruit but in check with the acidity. Light spritz upon opening. Terrific. Nice local deal at $15.

Like most Muscadet, I prefer this at warmer temperatures. After about 30 minutes the sweet lemon component really took off reminding me of lemon tarts I’ve had in the past. Loved the crushed rocks, the fresh herbs and the body of the wine…just great stuff.

The remarkable thing about these wines is, as good as they can be young, how much better they are with age.

Didn’t we open an older one at the shop? Maybe a '99? I think my feelings on older Muscadet mirror those of aged Rieslings; I’m still not sure if I like them young or old. Oy vey.

I think we opened a 97 and a 99, along side Tim’s 04 Bregeon Gorges.
