2009 Domaine Ostertag “Fronholz” Pinot Gris. Wow. This wine ia tight, focused, racy, intense, all at the same time. It was also opened years before it optimally would be opened, most wines with tropical fruit profiles are more lush, but this wine keeps everything in check. However, the tropical is more in the form of carambola (starfruit) than other fruits that might come to mind. The acidity is terrific. This was a pop and pour with friends over dinner at a restaurant. Next time, though, I’ll give this a bit of air and time to warm up (I had to transport it in ice). Paired nicely with grilled dorade in a green tomato broth with avocado and jalapeño.
