2009 Domaine Les Ondines Côtes du Rhône - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (4/4/2011)
Tasted over two days. Purple with some clearing around the rim.
Day 1- Fruity nose. Raspberry and plums. Full bodied, modern wine. Big red fruited mid palate raspberry, strawberry and some darker plummy notes. Low acidity. Firm tannic grip adds some complexity to the long finish. A not terribly interesting, but inoffensive Garagiste qpr wine.
Day 2- The nose still shows primarily fruit components, but it has mellowed more toward perfumed aromatics rather than fruit blast. Definitely my favorite part of the wine. The palate is pretty much consistent with day 1, but a minerally aspect is showing up especially on the finish. The tannins are boasting a bit more grip as well.
We tried to have this with filets and the lack of acidic structure really made it go nowhere with the food. All in all a decent, if unspectacular CDR.
