TN: 2009 Domaine Guy Roulot Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

A big whack of matchstick sulphur greets the nose, it lifts to reveal ripe orchard fruits, a touch of straw, a fleck of minerals and some butter. It is creamy and full in the mouth with a nice chalkiness to the finish.

Hmm,

Sounds pretty nice, interesting to see how the rest of the range looks…

This wine was so good 6 months ago that I broke my moratorium and ordered six bottles, which are already gone. Never did notice any overt sulphur though. The good news is that I have some 2004 and 2010 coming. Should be interesting when I return from the Côte in May.

I had the 2009 this past weekend in Napa. I didn’t get any of that sulfur note, but MAN was that an awesome wine! It was like drinking liquid citrus fruit that had been run through rocks. As soon as I got back to the store on Tuesday, I looked to see if we had any more…:frowning: If you’re a fan of crisp, fresh, and cristalline White Burg, consider this a no-brainer!

I’ve been more than a little skeptical about the notes I’ve read on this wine. I’ve tried a number of 2009 white burgundies, and I’ve had absolutely no interest in re-buying a single one of them. Well, I have finally overcome my skepticism and tried this wine and this is the one that shatters the over-ripe and flabby vintage stereotype: this is chablis meets meursault with a little Loire Valley sancerre thrown in for good measure. A very lively vibrant wine with ample heft, structure, complexity, acidity, and length that transcends the warm/ripe vintage’s weaknesses. One of the better bourgogne blancs I’ve had in the last few years.

I had the 2006 of this wine recently and after 40+ mins the sulfur had just started to blow off but the nose still didn’t become very interesting and the rest of the wine was a bit flat. Was pretty disappointed.

Any recent opinions on the 2008? Bought a case but haven’t popped any since initial purchase. MTIA

Had a few assorted '06’s…thought they showed very well for the vintage.

I opened a bottle of the 2008 recently. It was pretty tight and I suspect it needs another year or two to open up. The '09, for my tastes, is drinking better now, although I think it will improve over the next couple of years.
