- 2009 Domaine Bernard & Thierry Glantenay Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru (2/1/2026)
A very floral nose of violets and rose petals, coupled with cherry fruit. The palate is rich, velvety and layered. There's plenty of flesh and nice mineral detail. It has just a hint of foresty development and some smoked meats. It finishes with expansion and good energy. Right in its drinking window.

Thanks for the nice TNs. I am a fun of B&T Glantenay’s Volney wines and they are always available in Quebec, Canada. The prices are than reasonable. I regret that I did not buy enough of them.
That being said, I was not aware they also produced and released thier 4th 1er cru ( Caillerets ) until to-day. After reading your TNs, I just finished checking J. Morris 2nd Edition - Inside Burgundy - and learned their holding is very small (0.19 ha ) …so it is rare.
Merci…

I am a huge fan of the estate. The Santenots and Chenes are both superb, but I give a slight nod to the Santenots. The 2010 has a gorgeous minerality to it.
They also produce an obscure Pommard, Les Sausilles, a Gilman favorite. I have had it only one bottles, but it was excellent in a slightly more tannic way.

I imported these wines a long time ago, Bernard was still in charge.
The village Volnay was excellent. I agree that both Santenots and Chenes are wonderful.
I had to negotiate with them. I thought their tiny holding of Caillerets wasn’t great, they were grateful that I didn’t push for it. But their largest 1er Cru holding is Brouillards and I wasn’t a big fan. So my goal was to trade no Caillerets for no Brouillards and reasonable amounts of Santenots and Chenes.
I’m curious: I’ve never had anything from George Glantenay. Any thoughts?
In Quebec, SAQ released only 4 of their Volnays. The village is a wonderful QPR for any high-end village wine in CdB.
For natural low-yield years - for example 2021 and 2020 - SAQ released their wines by lottery system. If you were lucky, you are only allowed to buy 2 bottles each. Whereas before…I could buy as many as they were available.
SAQ also carries George G. but I did not try them as their prices are higher.
