TN: 2009 Château La Fleur Morange Mathilde

  • 2009 Château La Fleur Morange Mathilde - France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion (4/11/2011)
From a 375. Popped the cork and the nose was so strong I sniffed it before looking at it. Huge nose of kirsch, raspberry pie filling, alcohol, and leather. Purple in color. Funny, after about 30 minutes, the wine shut down a bit, especially on the nose. On the palate, this is very nice, easy to drink and filled with fruit. Not much complexity. If you gave this to me blind, I would suspect Australia or California, and maybe even a Cab/Syrah blend. Not at all what I was expecting, but certainly nice and for $10/375, nice QPR. I will, however, change when and where I open this, more of a cocktail wine in the short term, not that’s there’s anything wrong with that. (89 pts.)
