2009 Château de Saint-Cosme Côtes du Rhône Les Deux Albion - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (5/13/2012)
This one is the holy grail of wine…modestly priced? Check. Ueber-delicious? Check. Fun yet serious? Check. Great with a simple or fancy meal? Check. This one really has it all. Cherry and blackberry fruit with earth, licorice, bacon fat, and chocolate. This is practically dripping with perfectly ripe fruit while also having a perfectly balancing acidity and tons of nuance. Finishes strong, and one of the very few CdRs that I have had that I can even see cellaring. Not simply a baby CdP per se. Actually shows some Cote Rotie characteristics, too. A wine that should be purchased by the case loads…something I will certainly do myself.

I have to say year after year I think this is one of if not the best red wine you can find for under $20. haven’t tried my 09’s yet but the 07’s were fantastic.
100% agree! A major winner year after year, but particularly in 2007.
the 2007 was outstanding especially in magnums
Just popped a 2010 last night. Wow.

2010 Château de Saint-Cosme Côtes du Rhône Les Deux Albion - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (5/31/2012)
This wine is all about earth and minerality. There’s a little pepper on the nose, and some subdued dark fruit on the palate, but mostly this is a very earthy wine. Medium bodied, moderate acidity, strong but not overpowering tannins. Has the structure to age for a few years no problem.
The only knocks against it are a hint of heat on the nose (that didn’t come through on the palate at all), and maybe a lack of complexity.
But for less than $20, this is all I want in a Rhone blend. I will be buying more.
