TN: 2009 Catherine et Claude Maréchal Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes

  • 2009 Catherine et Claude Maréchal Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune (2/1/2012)
Sweet, juicy, creamy and succulent but also bright and energetic. This wine has intense blackberry and cherry fruits with a pretty thread of purple flowers running through it. It is round and voluminous but has a bed of cherry stones just below all of the flesh. It is an engaging wine with plenty of flavour and nuance and it slides down so effortlessly that I had to check if the bottle that we had just finished was not 375ml instead of 750.

Sounds great. Love these 375ml bottles.

The genisis of a new rating system. This wine scord 375, because the bottle disappeared fast enough to seem like one. An even better wine would score 187. A real clunker might be rated “magnum”. Spoofed Bdx could indeed be “dbl mag”.

Jeremy,

I had a bottle of this and the Bourgogne not long ago. Really nice and drinking easy. Unfortunately, availability of these wines is not as easy as it was a few years ago. Now the 05’s are super as well.

The 2009 Bourgogne is indeed excellent and a good deal. I’ve only seen the Bourgogne in one place locally and the Savigny is invisible here.
