Just a quick note on this bottle I bought today at Trader Joe’s for $7.00 since I saw some discussion on the board about this wine.
Not super complex but good red fruit that is not over ripe with some moderate tannins and a medium length finish. While not a blockbuster this is a very good sub-$10.00 wine. 85 points
I would, and will, buy this again for a daily drinker.
I don’t think Bob Lindquist is making all of the VinTJs wines, but he apparently made the Central Coast Syrah and a Santa Maria Chard. They also have/had a SLH Pinot, a Napa Cab, an earlier Syrah from Mt Veeder.
As Al alluded, the VinTJS Syrah and Chard w/ a central coast appellation are BobLindquist’s. The other VinTJS are
from other sources. Not always identifiable. So…no…not a 2’nd label…just a TJ’s label.
These two wines are a “one-of”. At least for now…there could very well be others in the future. Bob had some
xtra Syrah & Chard that he wanted to bulk out, not up to his exacting standards, and TJ’s made him an offer he
couldn’t refuse. Lots of BienNacido and other good grape sources in there. Heckofa deal, I would guess, but I’ve not yet had
them as they’ve not appeared here in SantaFe. When I showed them the Berserker comments and suggested that
they bring them in, they lady just shrugged her shoulders and said they don’t carry those two wines…only the Cabernet.
Doh…it’s called customer service!!!

For those who have tried this wine, does it taste a little…off-dry/sweet to you? I tried a second bottle of this, and that was the most apparent to me.
Finally tried the bottle I bought. Not a spoofed up wine but pushing the ripeness envelope for me.
2008 VINTJS Syrah- USA, California, Central Coast (2/14/2010)
Nose shows very ripe fruit with a touch of VA. Some meat aromas from behind boysenberries. Palate shows a sharpness due to the VA but is lean showing little oak or softness. Decent acidity and no tannin. Solid for the money but seemed to show overripe for me.
